Saturdays-KIDS (Grades K – 7)

Students build skills in fingering, form, and proper bow technique, while learning the fundamentals of music theory including reading music. Students will work individually and collaboratively on exercises and song work building rhythm, timing, concentration, comprehension and coordination.

A beginning acting class that gives students a chance to use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create characters and tell stories. Students work on pantomime, expressing emotion, and creating dialogue while becoming more comfortable and confident in front of others.

Fun and interactive activities and songs engage students in the movement and music. Students practice vocal technique including proper breathing, support and control to improve the quality and strength of their singing voices. By adding choreography, students learn how to use their bodies in combination with their voices to create a performance.

A limited number of lessons are available in 12-week session from February to May.

Students interested in Piano Lab II must complete a piano assessment given at the Institute of Music. Assessments are scheduled by the Institute on a first come, first serve basis. Students are required to purchase a piano lesson book ($15) and The Institute offers portable Keyboards for $50.00.

Samples of Latin Jazz and R&B music will be used for learners to play along to. Students learn proper technique when playing various percussion instruments. They practice notation and how to read music and rotate through stick and hand drumming to build strong rhythm, timing and listen ing skills. Students work both individually and as an ensemble.

Step dance is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps.
