Saturdays Classes

Saturdays-KIDS (Grades K – 7)

Students build skills in fingering, form, and proper bow technique, while learning the fundamentals of music theory including reading music. Students will work individually and collaboratively on exercises and song work building rhythm, timing, concentration, comprehension and coordination.

 Violins available for rental for $50 fee.

A beginning acting class that gives students a chance to use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create characters and tell stories. Students work on pantomime, expressing emotion, and creating dialogue while becoming more comfortable and confident in front of others.

Come and learn this animation technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion when the series of frames is played back as a fast sequence.

Private Lessons are available in 24-week sessions from October to May. Lessons are scheduled individually by Institute staff. Private lessons are not covered for financial aid.

A limited number of lessons are available in 12-week session from February to May.

In Rhythm & Drumming students are introduced to a variety of percussion styles such as basic conga drum-ming patterns that evolved from Africa. Samples of Latin Jazz and R&B music will be used for learners to play along to. Students learn proper technique when playing various percussion instruments. They practice notation and how to read music and rotate through stick and hand drumming to build strong rhythm, timing and listen ing skills. Students work both individually and as an ensemble.

Students learn advanced music theory including the music alphabet, scales, and key signatures. Students also practice identifying keys, reading notes and build skills in rhythm and timing while learning to play a variety of songs.

Students interested in Piano Lab III must complete a piano assessment given at the Institute of Music. Assessments are scheduled by the Institute on a first come, first serve basis. 

Students are required to purchase a piano lesson book ($15) and The Institute offers portable Keyboards for $50.00.

Students participate in daily warm-up activities that build technique and prepare them to learn choreographed routines. The program focuses on building skills in a variety of dance styles including Jazz, african, & hip-hop with a strong emphasis on body alignment, strength development and control.
