Saturdays Classes

Saturdays-KIDS (Grades K – 7)

Students learn both the basics of music theory including the music alphabet, scales, and key signatures. Students also practice identifying keys, reading notes and build skills in rhythm and timing while learning to play a variety of songs.  Students will be working up to a performance in the showcase in the Spring.

 

**There is a $15 Piano materials fee required.**  The Institute offers a portable keyboard for purchase for $50.

A beginning acting class that gives students a chance to use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create characters and tell stories. Students work on pantomime, expressing emotion, and creating dialogue while becoming more comfortable and confident in front of others.

Fun and interactive activities and songs engage students in the movement and music. Students practice vocal technique including proper breathing, support and control to improve the quality and strength of their singing voices. By adding choreography, students learn how to use their bodies in combination with their voices to create a performance.

Come and learn this animation technique in which objects/images are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion when the series of frames is played back as a fast sequence.

Private Lessons are available in 24-week sessions from October to May. Lessons are scheduled individually by Institute staff. Private lessons are not covered for financial aid.

A limited number of lessons are available in 12-week session from February to May.

Students interested in Piano Lab II must complete a piano assessment given at the Institute of Music. Assessments are scheduled by the Institute on a first come, first serve basis. 

**There is an additional $15 Piano Materials fee for this class.**  The Institute offers portable Keyboards for $50.00.

Samples of Latin Jazz and R&B music will be used for learners to play along to. Students learn proper technique when playing various percussion instruments. They practice notation and how to read music and rotate through stick and hand drumming to build strong rhythm, timing and listening skills. Students work both individually and as an ensemble.

The Institute gets asked to perform for local events, so we created Harmony CHOIR! Open to students who are have a serious interest in vocals (both in groups and solo). Must be available for both days as well as performance opportunities. Interested students must audition to be considered.

Ever wonder how artists create their amazing music?  Using music creation software such a Garage Band or Logic, students take it up a notch and combine electronic music production skills and their voices to create their own original recordings either using a current hit, or their own personal song.
